BIOGRAPHY

Shakira is a NIDA graduate who has worked consistantly across film, television and theatre for the last ten years. Recent TV credits include Eden (Stan), Diary of an Uber Driver (ABC), Doctor Doctor (Nine Network) and Hyde and Seek (Matchbox Pictures). She will be seen next in season two of Frayed and Preppers, both for the ABC.

Shakira has graced our stages in some of the countries most successful productions in recent years. These include Long Forgotten Dream (STC dir. Neil Armfield), Barbara and the Camp Dogs (QTC/Belvoir), I’m With Her (Darlinghurst Theatre Company) and scored herself a Best Actress nomination at the Sydney Theatre Awards for the critically acclaimed production Weekend (Carriageworks). This year alone, Shakira has performed the lead role in York (Black Swan Theatre Company) and recently premiered her sold out, self written, one women cabaret Still I Rise for the Darlinghurst Theatre Company.

Continuing to grow her skills, she has also been working with the SBS and Replay Films in the UK in the documentary space. An accomplished voice actor, Shakira also gave life to characters in Little J and Big Cuz (SBS).

A champion for diversity within our industry, Shakira is a proud Wongatha, Yamatji and Noongar, Gitja yorga (woman) from Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar (Perth), as well as being African American and Etowah Cherokee on her fathers side.
