BIOGRAPHY

Beverley Bergen graduated from Otago University in Music and Psychology… some time back. And after working as a TV presenter and broadcaster on radio NZBC and for TVNZ, she continued in TV with an appointment as news anchor for ABCTV Sydney under former married name of Beverly Bohan.

Beverley then won a scholarship to the London Opera Centre in London UK to further her studies in singing where she won first prize in the Royal Overseas League competition.  This launched her European career which Included major roles with Glyndebourne, Sadlers Wells and Welsh National Opera as well as many concert performances all throughout Europe.

Throughout the 70’s and 80’s Beverley toured with the New Zealand Opera Company and in Europe was a member of the Deutsche Opera Berlin and guested at numerous European houses including Brussels, Munich and Dusseldorf, as well as solo concert performances with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra, notably in their Jubilee performances of the Verdi Requiem. She recorded frequently with the RIAS orchestra of Berlin.

On a return to Australasia Beverley continued her operatic journey whilst also establishing herself as an acclaimed teacher for Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Wollongong University and York University in the UK and has appeared as a judge on international panels for both composition and performance.

Since retiring from Opera, Beverley has returned her focus to her other love of on-camera and voiceover performances. She has recently created, produced and hosted an eight-part lifestyle series “Aria and Pasta” for Bravo Channel in the US, interviewing major Opera stars across the world and has also done TV Commercial work for Aldi, Cricket Australia and Cellarmasters.

Beverley’s hobbies include photography, skiing, cooking and bush walking.
