Matthew, a native of Auckland, is the newest addition to RMK's roster of Melbourne artists. In addition to a long and distinguished acting career, Matthew is an accomplished voice over artist, having voiced thousands of television and radio commercials, corporate videos, and film narrations.
In 1994 Matthew directed and appeared in the radio serial, Painted Lies, for broadcast in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, and recently read several short stories for ABC Radio National. He has also appeared in hundreds of radio plays and features for Radio New Zealand, and performed a 10-episode book reading for the network.
A classically trained actor, Matthew has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Sydney Theatre Company, and many others, and he formed the Sydney Actors Company in 1975. Shakespearean credits include the title roles in Hamlet, Richard III, Macbeth, and King Lear, which Matthew played for the Shakespeare Globe Centre Australia in 2004. He directed Romeo and Juliet for the Globe in 2007.
Television and film roles include Melba, Land of Hope, Sons and Daughters, The True Believers, La Boheme, Rafferty's Rules, The Outsiders, The Schippan Mystery, Olive, Living with the Law, Water Rats, Blonde, Whipping Boy, A Street to Die, No Room to Run, Who Killed Dr Bogle and Mrs Chandler, and The Prime Minister is Missing.
