BIOGRAPHY
With a boundless repertoire, Ian has forged a career as one of Australia’s pre-eminent voice artists.
Radio, television, cinema, internet, in-house and worldwide retail reads, corporate narration, audio books, the revoicing of international films for English language release as well as multiple character voices for local and international animated series such as: Gumnutz: A Juicy Tale, Get Ace, Sherazade: The Untold Stories and Kuu-Kuu Harajuku.
With over 30 years as a professional in the entertainment industry Ian brings experience in spades. His broad body of work crosses all genres: Theatre highlights being the award winning Jasper Jones and Richard III for the Melbourne Theatre Company, the stage musical Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Story and the National Theatre of Great Britain’s War Horse.
His television experience includes ground breaking TV series like Blue Murder, Underbelly, Informer 3838 and the critically acclaimed Wentworth. Ian has also appeared in international blockbuster films such as Stealth, Superman Returns and The Matrix Trilogy (where one critic remarked, “Bliss sounds more like Hugo Weaving than Hugo Weaving”).
We think one of the greatest compliments Ian has received is: “I can’t believe all those voices come from the same guy!” But don’t take our word for it… have a listen and see for yourself.
Throwing Ian (gently) into the booth is always going to be a rewarding experience. His range from authorative government voice through to that warm fatherly advice you need, combined with a multitude of characters that seem to defy the gentle nature of the man, you’re sure to get the right performance when Ian’s on the job. I was first introduced to Ian’s work in War Horse in 2013. Ian’s detail and skill with regional British accents, along with his ability to physically inhabit roles firmly placed his characters in a specific era and location. Ian has worked regularly at MTC throughout his career. He has the range to work across a variety of genres including Shakespeare, contemporary and classical drama through to comedy and devised new work. During my time at MTC, Ian has been cast in several highly successful productions including North by Northwest, directed by Simon Phillips, in which he created a variety of American roles using a range of accents in this highly physical and fast paced production. In 2016, Ian was cast in Jasper Jones, directed by Sam Strong. Set in regional Western Australia Ian once again displayed his virtuosic performance skills playing a dad, Mr Bucktin and a teenage cricket playing bully in the role of Warwick.
Ian is a valued and respected performer within the industry and at MTC. His range of credits across different mediums and his on-going working relationships with directors and companies, speak volumes about his talent and professionalism.
